West Virginia at Iowa State Prediction & Betting Pick | College Football October 3, 2026
West Virginia–Iowa State has the feel of a game where the matchup matters more than the records, and the matchup leans toward WVU hanging inside the number. The Mountaineers just put up 467 yards and 335 rushing on Oklahoma State, and that ground game is exactly the kind of physicality Iowa State struggled with last week when Utah gashed them for 205 yards at 6.2 YPC. WVU’s offense is built to travel — 294.8 rushing yards per game, 36.3 PPG, and an identity that doesn’t rely on explosive passing. Iowa State’s offense, meanwhile, hasn’t shown it can separate from anyone, averaging 345.3 yards, 164.8 passing, and ranking 119th through the air. Their defense is solid, but WVU’s run game is the one unit in this matchup that can consistently dictate tempo. In a game that projects to be a grinder, catching more than a field goal with the more reliable offense makes sense, which is why I’m backing West Virginia +3.5.
