Alabama heads into Week 2 with something to prove after a disappointing 31-17 loss to Florida State in its opener. The biggest concern from that game was the offensive line, which struggled badly to protect new starting quarterback Ty Simpson. Despite being under constant pressure, Simpson still managed to throw for 254 yards and two touchdowns without turning the ball over.
While Germie Bernard emerged as Simpsonโs top target with 146 yards and a score, the Crimson Tide still need more from freshman phenom Ryan Williams. If he can get more involved, the offense should look much sharper in this bounce-back spot.
Defensively, Alabama also had issues containing dual-threat quarterback Tommy Castellanos last week, as he racked up both rushing and passing production. Thatโs a warning sign the Tide will need to address before SEC play, but UL Monroe doesnโt present the same challenge.
The Warhawks enter this matchup off a 29-0 win over St. Francis (PA), led by running back Braylon McReynolds, who averaged over 10 yards per carry and found the end zone twice. Quarterback Aidan Armenta was serviceable, but UL Monroeโs offense is still limited compared to the elite athletes Alabama brings to the table.
Given the gap in talent and the Tideโs motivation to make a statement. Expect Alabama to set the tone from kickoff and build a big lead before halftime.
