Charleston Women vs Duke Women Prediction & Betting Pick | Women’s March Madness First Round March 20, 2026
📅 Date: Friday, March 20, 2026
🕖 Time: 11:30 AM EST
🏟️ Venue: Cameron Indoor Stadium - Durham, NC
Duke walks into Cameron with pedigree and momentum. They’ve been a top program for years, and under Kara Lawson they’ve tightened into a team that knows how to close out tournament games — the resume and seed reflect that.
This Blue Devils roster is balanced and battle-tested. Toby Fournier is the primary scoring threat, Taina Mair runs the offense and defends, and Ashlon Jackson gives Duke perimeter punch and playmaking. That mix of scoring, creation, and defense is hard to slow for a first-time tournament team.
Charleston earned its spot the hard way and they’re dangerous in short bursts. The Barbot twins carry the scoring load and the Cougars play disciplined defense; they won the CAA and arrive confident. But their schedule didn’t force them into the same level of physicality they’ll see at Cameron.
Matchup-wise, the biggest edge for Duke is size and depth. Duke crashes the glass, gets stops, and can rotate without a drop in quality. Charleston’s frontcourt is undersized; if Duke feeds Fournier and Thomas early, the paint will be a recurring problem for the Cougars.
Tempo and pace matter here. Charleston wants to keep possessions tight and grind possessions; Duke prefers to control the clock with efficient offense and stingy defense. Whoever dictates pace will tilt the scoreboard — and Duke has the personnel to impose their tempo from the opening whistle.
Defense will decide this game. Both teams defend well, but Duke’s length and experience against top competition give them the advantage in late possessions and in forcing contested looks. Charleston can hang if they hit early threes, but Duke’s rotation makes sustained hot streaks difficult.
First half is where the value sits. Duke should be able to build a sizable lead early by attacking the paint and limiting Charleston’s transition chances. That’s why I’m taking the Blue Devils to cover -18.5 at halftime — they control the interior and the boards from the jump.
The total feels tilted toward the over only if Charleston gets hot from deep. Realistically, both teams play defense and Duke grinds possessions; I like under 131.5 because Duke’s ability to slow the game and Charleston’s tendency toward lower-scoring losses point to a controlled, half-court affair.
Key in-game watch: how Duke defends the Cougars. If Duke forces them into contested mid-range shots and denies easy drives, the Cougars’ scoring ceiling drops fast. Conversely, if Charleston gets Fournier into foul trouble, the game tightens — but Duke’s depth mitigates that risk.
Duke’s experience, frontcourt advantage, and defensive identity should carry them through.
