San Jose State vs Texas Prediction & Betting Pick | College Football Week 2
📅 Date: Saturday, September 6, 2025
🕖 Time: 12:00 PM EST
🏟️ Venue: DKR–Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
Texas will look to bounce back after a hard-fought Week 1 loss to Ohio State, while San Jose State enters Week 2 still frustrated after letting a winnable game slip away against Central Michigan. Both teams enter this matchup hungry, but the gap in talent and depth may prove too much for the Spartans to overcome.
The Longhorns nearly stunned the defending national champions, outgaining Ohio State 336–203 and moving the chains more consistently. Despite the positive signs, Texas couldn’t finish drives and fell 14–7.
Quarterback Arch Manning threw for 170 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while also adding 38 yards on the ground. Freshman running back Quintrevion Wisner showed promise with 80 rushing yards on 16 carries, and tight end Jack Endries paced the receiving corps with 50 yards.
Texas’ defense looked sharp, particularly against the pass, holding the Buckeyes to just 203 total yards. Back home in Austin, the Longhorns now have the chance to flex their dominance against a Mountain West opponent.
San Jose State dropped its opener 16–14 to Central Michigan in heartbreaking fashion, missing two late field goals that could have sealed a win. Quarterback Walker Eget showed flashes, throwing for 308 yards and two scores, but his two interceptions proved costly.
Wide receiver Danny Scudero stole the show, racking up 189 yards and a touchdown on nine catches — the best debut by a Spartan receiver in program history. On the defensive side, linebacker Jordan Pollard racked up 15 tackles, ranking among the national leaders in Week 1.
The Spartans, however, struggled against the run, allowing 247 rushing yards to the Chippewas. That weakness sets up poorly against a Texas offense that averages over 4 yards per carry.
This is only the second all-time meeting between the two schools. The first came in 2017, when Texas shut out San Jose State 56–0 in Austin. The Spartans haven’t beaten a ranked team on the road since 1980, nor have they upset a Power Four opponent since 2019.
The Longhorns, meanwhile, haven’t lost at home to an unranked foe since the infamous overtime defeat to Kansas in 2021.
📌 Official Pick
Texas -20.5 First Half (-140) [FanDuel]
The Longhorns should control this game from the opening whistle. After letting Ohio State slip away, expect Texas to come out aggressive in its home opener and build a commanding lead before halftime.
