The Louisville Cardinals kick off their 2025 campaign with a familiar Week 1 script: an FCS opponent at home where dominance is expected. Last year, Jeff Brohm’s squad crushed Austin Peay 62-0 in their opener, and Saturday’s matchup against Eastern Kentucky projects to follow a similar script.
Louisville’s offense is loaded with firepower. Running backs Isaac Brown and Duke Watson headline a rushing attack that should overwhelm the Colonels’ defensive front, with both expected to top 80 yards on the ground. Add in Miller Moss, making his debut as QB1, and the Cards’ offense should have no trouble producing explosive plays. Louisville’s offensive line dominated last year’s FCS opponent, springing long touchdown runs of 77 and 58 yards — expect a similar output here as the Cardinals push for 300+ rushing yards.
On the other side, the gap in the trenches should decide this one early. Louisville’s defensive line, led by Colin Simmonsand Anthony Hill, will be relentless against an EKU offensive line breaking in new starters. The Colonels are without star RB Joshua Carter (1,200 yards, 14 TDs last year), and new starter Myles Burkett will face heavy pressure in his first game leading the offense.
Eastern Kentucky is a solid FCS program (8-5 in 2024, UAC playoff berth), but history, talent, and matchups all point toward another Louisville blowout. The Cardinals are too explosive, too deep, and too well-prepared to let this game stay competitive beyond the first quarter.
