Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Northwestern Wildcats Prediction & Betting Pick | College Football October 24, 2026
KJ Duff has moved beyond being one of the best receivers in the Big Ten. At this point, he's putting together one of the best receiving seasons in the country, and Rutgers continues to funnel its entire passing game through him. When the Scarlet Knights need a play, the ball finds No. 1.
The volume alone makes him difficult to ignore. Through six games, Duff has piled up 42 catches, 741 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns, averaging more than 123 receiving yards per game. Those are elite numbers regardless of conference, and they become even more impressive considering how much defensive attention he sees every week.
What stands out is the consistency. Duff has already eclipsed 100 receiving yards in four of six games this season, and his production hasn't been dependent on game script. Whether Rutgers is leading, trailing, or playing in a close contest, he's seeing targets at an incredibly high rate.
Last week's performance against Maryland was another example. Nine catches, 113 yards, and two touchdowns. More importantly, he was making plays all over the field, including a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab that immediately made the national highlight shows.
The matchup also works in his favor. Northwestern has put together a strong season overall, but the secondary remains vulnerable compared to other top defenses in the conference. The Wildcats are allowing more than 230 passing yards per game, and opposing receivers have found opportunities against them throughout the year.
The reality is Rutgers doesn't have many alternatives with Duff's talent level. That concentration of targets matters when betting receiver overs. Some players need efficiency to get there. Duff has both efficiency and guaranteed opportunity.
I also think game flow helps. Northwestern is favored for good reason and has been one of the better stories in the Big Ten this season. If the Wildcats play from ahead at any point, Rutgers will lean even harder into its passing attack, creating additional chances for Duff.
Another angle I like is the NFL Draft motivation. Duff is playing himself into first-round conversations, and every week he's reinforcing that status. Defensive coordinators know exactly who they're trying to stop, yet he continues producing because his contested-catch ability is among the best in college football.
The advanced metrics back that up. After leading the nation in contested catches last season, he's doing it again this year. He doesn't need perfect separation to win. If the ball is in the air, he has a legitimate chance to come down with it.
Rutgers' defense has struggled all year, allowing more than 31 points per game and ranking near the bottom of the FBS in several categories. That creates another positive environment for receiving props because it increases the likelihood of a pass-heavy game script.
When I put everything together, the path is clear. Massive target share, elite production, proven consistency, and a matchup that should force Rutgers to stay aggressive through the air. Duff has become one of the most reliable high-volume receivers in college football, and I expect another heavy workload on Saturday.
