The Chargers get Omarion Hampton back on Monday night, and his role immediately becomes one of the most important storylines against Philadelphia. Hampton has cleared 48 rushing yards in three of his five games this season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry with at least 12 touches in each of those outings. When he’s healthy, he’s shown the ability to generate consistent production, and that’s exactly what this offense needs with Herbert’s hand still a question mark.
Philly’s defense has been vulnerable on the ground. They’re giving up 4.5 yards per carry, and losing Jalen Carter up front only magnifies that weakness. The Bears exposed it last week, pounding them for chunk gains, and while the Chargers don’t have the same line or rushing depth, Hampton’s return gives them a legitimate chance to lean into the run game.
The rookie’s last three performances before the injury — 70, 128, and 44 yards — all came with steady usage. Even if Kimani Vidal splits the workload, Hampton’s efficiency and ability to hit second-level runs make him a strong candidate to push past this number. He doesn’t need 20 carries to get there; 12–15 touches with his average per attempt puts him right in range.
Of course, there’s some uncertainty. We don’t know how the Chargers will divide work between Hampton and Vidal, and we don’t know if Hampton’s injury will limit his explosiveness. But the matchup tilts in his favor. Philly’s front has been inconsistent, and without Carter, they’re far less imposing. If Herbert is limited, the Chargers have every reason to test the ground game early and often.
The offensive line isn’t dominant, ranking 13th-worst in yards before contact since Week 13, but Hampton’s style fits a game plan built around patience and hitting cutback lanes. He doesn’t need perfect blocking to find daylight, and against a defense that’s been gashed in recent weeks, he should have opportunities.
Philly’s numbers before the Bears game were strong — top five in rushing yards allowed, top six in success rate — but that was before injuries and fatigue started to show. This isn’t the same unit right now, and the Chargers have a chance to exploit that. Hampton’s return gives them a fresh body with upside, and the volume should be enough to get him past the mid-40s.
📌 Official Picks
Omarion Hampton (Los Angeles Chargers) Over 36.5 Rushing Yards -112 Even with some workload uncertainty, the matchup and game script point to Hampton clearing this line.
