New England Patriots at Chicago Bears Prediction & Betting Pick | NFL Thursday Night Football October 22, 2026
This game has all the ingredients of a sneaky passing-game spot on both sides. New England and Chicago enter at 4-2, both offenses are moving the ball well enough to stay aggressive, and the matchup creates opportunities for each team's top receiving option. Instead of focusing on the spread, I'm targeting the volume where I see the clearest edge.
Let's start with Luther Burden because his role in Chicago's offense has quietly reached WR1 territory. Caleb Williams continues to trust him in critical situations, and the numbers back it up. Burden leads the Bears in target share and has steadily become the focal point of the passing attack.
What stands out most is how his involvement continues to grow. His air-yard share has climbed over the last few weeks, and he's coming off another productive outing against Atlanta where he posted 95 receiving yards. When a receiver is earning both volume and downfield opportunities, that's usually when I want to buy in.
The matchup is better than New England's season-long numbers suggest. The Patriots have defended the perimeter reasonably well at times, but they've been vulnerable in the short and intermediate middle of the field. That's exactly where Burden thrives, operating out of the slot and finding space underneath zone coverage.
Recent results support that angle. Several opposing receivers have posted meaningful production against this defense, including Keon Coleman, Omar Cooper, and Jakobi Meyers. Burden's route tree fits the areas where New England has struggled most consistently.
I also like that Burden produced last week despite a reduced snap count. Leading the team in receiving while playing fewer snaps than usual is often a sign that efficiency and opportunity are converging. If his workload returns to normal, the path to 57+ yards is very realistic.
On the other side, I see value with A.J. Brown. The box score from his return game wasn't impressive, but I think many bettors will focus on the drops and overlook the more important detail: Drake Maye kept looking his way all afternoon.
Ten targets in a game immediately after returning from injury tells me everything I need to know. Brown commanded over 30% of the targets, consistently created separation, and remained the clear first read in key situations. Volume like that is difficult to ignore.
The Patriots are also dealing with injuries elsewhere in the receiving corps, which concentrates the passing game even further. With fewer trustworthy options available, Brown's target projection remains extremely strong. If he sees another eight to ten targets, this line becomes very attainable.
Chicago's defense has allowed several opposing receivers to post quality yardage totals this season. While the Bears have improved offensively, their secondary still gives up explosive opportunities, especially to true alpha receivers capable of winning one-on-one matchups downfield.
From a game-flow perspective, this sets up nicely for both props. Chicago ranks among the league's better offenses, which could force New England to stay aggressive through the air. At the same time, the Patriots are good enough defensively to keep the Bears from sitting on the football all afternoon. More passing volume generally benefits both Burden and Brown.
When I put everything together, I see two receivers whose usage trends are pointing straight up. Burden has become Caleb Williams' most reliable option and gets a favorable schematic matchup, while Brown remains Drake Maye's clear go-to target in an offense that may have to throw to keep pace. Both numbers feel a bit short relative to their expected opportunity.
