Last week’s game against Caleb Williams and the Bears was a grind — sloppy weather, heavy rain, and a tough matchup that made it hard for Jayden Daniels to get anything going. But this week? Totally different story. The setup in Dallas screams bounce-back, and on paper, it’s his best opportunity yet to go off through the air.

The Cowboys’ defense has been a mess from top to bottom. They’re giving up the most passing yards per game in the NFL and the second-most passing touchdowns. That’s not a fluke — the numbers back it up. Dallas ranks dead last in opponent dropback EPA, 28th in success rate, and 31st in yards allowed per pass attempt (7.8). That means teams are consistently moving the ball through the air, and big plays are coming almost effortlessly against this secondary.

Daniels has already cleared this passing number in two of his four starts, but this matchup is by far the softest he’s seen. His deep-ball accuracy and willingness to take shots downfield line up perfectly against a Dallas defense that’s been gashed all season on explosive plays. The Cowboys have surrendered 28 completions of 20+ yards, and 15 of those went for 25+ — both league highs. If Washington gives Daniels time to operate, there’s no reason he can’t push for 250+ yards here.

Let’s not forget, Daniels already dropped 275 yards on this Dallas defense last season in his only full game against them. That was when Micah Parsons was still in town and wrecking pockets — now he’s gone, and this defense has lost its anchor. Without that constant pressure, quarterbacks are getting cleaner pockets, and Dallas has been exposed on the back end.

This Cowboys defense just can’t get off the field. They’ve been brutal on third downs and are constantly giving opponents extra chances. That’s dangerous against a quarterback like Daniels, who thrives on extending plays and hitting receivers once the defense breaks down. The Commanders have been mixing in more quick throws lately, which should help neutralize Dallas’s limited pass rush and open up the deep shots later in the game.

Bryce Young’s numbers last week might make it look like the Cowboys made improvements, but that’s misleading — Carolina leaned heavily on the run because Rico Dowdle was torching them on the ground. Daniels won’t have that luxury. Washington will need him to move the ball through the air, and given the defensive metrics, that’s exactly where the advantage lies.

All signs point to Daniels bouncing back in a big way. The conditions, the matchup, and the film all line up. Dallas has become the defense you target for quarterback props — and this week, Jayden Daniels gets his turn to pick them apart.
